Maintenance guide
SG Bijouterie-Joaillerie attaches extreme importance to the quality of its jewelry.
Here are some maintenance tips to preserve them.
Cleaning gemstone jewelry.
Most colored gemstones can be cleaned with warm water, mild dish soap (no detergents), and a soft brush or with jewelry cleaners. Be sure to rinse your jewelry in a container to remove the cleaning solutions, as you may lose a piece of jewelry if you rinse it directly in the sink.
Maintenance of pearl jewelry.
Pearls are rated 2.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, meaning they are very soft and scratch easily. With care, pearl jewelry can last for years. Pearl strength is always good, but aging, storage, and sometimes excessive bleaching during original processing can make some pearls more brittle.
Sustainability.
High external temperatures can burn cultured pearls or cause discoloration or cracking. Pearls are generally tough and subtle, but the heat from strong light can cause the nacre to dehydrate and crack. Pearls can be damaged by many chemicals and all acids. The list includes hairspray, perfume, cosmetics, and even sweat.
Pearls should never be cleaned in an ultrasonic or steam cleaner. It is strongly recommended to use warm, soapy water for occasional deep cleaning. If the pearls are strung, ensure the silk is completely dry before wearing. Finally, it is recommended to wipe cultured pearls with a very soft, clean cloth after each wear.
Store your jewelry safely.
All jewelry should be handled with care.
Jewelry should preferably be kept in a lined jewelry box with a separate section or in its original cases.
